The Golden Gate Bridge
This is one of the symbols of the USA: it's the famous bridge that connects San Francisco with Marin County in California. It is the second suspension bridge in the US. This bridge is not made of gold, and it is actually orange, but it is called Golden Gate Bridge because it crosses the Golden Gate, which is the water between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
The Statue of Liberty
This is another world-famous symbol of America. This statue stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbour.
Frédéric Auguste Bartholdy designed it and France gave it to the US people in 1884, and in 1984 it was made Worl Heritage Site. It is actually the statue of a woman holding the torch of freedom (Liberty), so it has becom a symbol of freedom.
Hollywood
Hollywood, near Los Angeles, represents the excitement and the glamour of the american film Industry. The world's major film companies have their studios here and many famous film stars live in its fashionable and expensive Beverly Hills district.
These companies were attracted to California by its fine weather, which allowed them to film outside for most of the year. So, by the 1920s, famous companies such as Universal, United Artists, 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures had set up their studios in Hollywood.
